From the start, we aimed beyond just making tasty, premium dog treats. We wanted to make a real impact on people’s lives. That’s why we make every Smoofl treat by hand in our Belgian sheltered workshop. Here, we provide meaningful jobs to people who face barriers to employment. This isn’t just a business choice – it’s deeply personal to us.
Working in a sheltered workshop transformed my aunt’s life. Beyond just having a job, it gave her community, daily structure, and a sense of purpose. Her experience showed me firsthand how meaningful these workplaces can be. So when we launched Smoofl and needed help making our Dog Ice treats in 2018, partnering with a sheltered workshop was an obvious choice. We wanted to create the same positive impact that had made such a difference for my aunt.
Food experts that care
We picked the Blankedale workshop for a reason – they’re great at making food. They work with big companies, so they know how to make lots of products while keeping quality high. Best of all, they gave us our own space in their building, which helps us make sure every treat is safe and perfect.
But there’s more to this story. The team has been amazing to work with. Together, we’ve created something special: a place where making great products and giving people opportunities go hand in hand.
Meet the People Behind the Treats
At our Smoofl workshop, everyone works as one team. People with disabilities work next to caring supervisors who help show them what to do. Most of our team members have their own dogs at home, so making dog treats is extra special to them. The best part? When they visit pet stores and see the treats they made sitting on the shelves. Their faces light up knowing that dogs all over the world are enjoying treats they made with their own hands.

We’ve created easy-to-follow steps for everything we make, from our Dog Pops to our Dog Ice Mix. We check each treat carefully, and we can track where every ingredient comes from. This way, we make sure every Smoofl treat is just as good as the last one, while making sure our team feels confident and supported in their work.
We’re not just bosses who stop by once in a while. The Smoofl founders come to the workshop every day. We work right beside our team, talk about new ideas, and make sure everything is perfect together.
